El Huanglongbing de los Cítricos “HLB”
La enfermedad llamada Huanglongbing o enfermedad del enverdecimiento de los cítricos, ya es una realidad, que enfrentan los citricultores en Costa Rica, y aunque la misma, no es dañina para los humanos, es mortal para los árboles de cítricos y no tiene cura.
El Huanglongbing de los Cítricos “HLB”
- Es una enfermedad causada por la bacteria Candidatus Liberibacter que tiene dos especies: africanus y asiaticus esta última, presente en el país.
- se transmite por medio del injerto de yemas procedente de plantas infectadas y mediantes un insecto vector.
- el psílido asiático de los cítricos conocido como, Diaphorina citri.
- Este insecto se dispersa por medio del viento a corta y larga distancia, transmitiendo la bacteria de árbol a árbol.
Se considera la enfermedad más devastadora para los cítricos a nivel mundial, debido a que no hay cura para los árboles infectados.
Daños que produce:
- Muerte de plantas en periodo aproximado de cuatro años.
- Disminución del peso de los frutos
- Disminución del nivel de azúcar (parámetro importante para la industria)
- Aumento del nivel de acidez
- Disminución del porcentaje de jugo
- Disminución del tamaño, alteración del color y forma
- Una planta joven afectada no llega a producir frutos (producción).
Nuestro objetivo como cooperativa es reducir la incidencia de la enfermedad,prevenir la migración del insecto vector portando la bacteria hacia zonas sin presencia, y lograr la participación y capacitación de los productores de la península de Nicoya.
